Description
* School of Lightness Australia
Philippe Karl’s first priorities are respect and love for the horse. In his Ecole de Légèreté (School of Lightness – EdL ), any use of force or coercive means is strictly unacceptable. This includes training aids such as draw reins and side reins, as well as tight nosebands.
Philippe Karl’s philosophy delivers a coherent and comprehensive training program through which horses of all types and breeds can be schooled in all equestrian disciplines. He offers clear principles and efficient methods where all actions fully respect the nature of each individual horse. In short, he opens the door to high school equitation for any seriously motivated rider – even those with a “quite ordinary horse”.
The EdL in Australia has been underway for more than a decade with guidance from Philippe Karl initially, then in the experienced hands of Sylvia Stoessel and Melanie Bulmahn. From 2024 Veronika Buehn is our Australian Master Teacher.
* Spectators Welcome
The education of the Trainee Teachers and the continued education of the already Licenced Teachers in the EdL is not a tightly held secret! Indeed Auditors (Spectators) are both welcome and valued. Spectators can watch each lesson, view the pedagogy practice, watch teachers take their exams, as well as participate in the Master Teacher Theory nights.
If you are new to the EdL you can participate as a spectator in one or more days of the clinic.
If you are interested in detailed, long term learning and following the progression of the teacher/horse partnerships you can choose to participate in our Dedicated Listener Program. After attending 10 full clinics you will be awarded a certificate from Philippe Karl as well as recognition from the group of your dedication.
Spectator bookings can be made by completing the paperwork, cost is $50 per day or $150 for 4 days.
* Daily Program
Each day of the clinic usually starts at around 8am with lessons through to lunchtime. Immediately after lunch will be time for pedagogy lessons or exams. Followed by further lessons, with the lesson program complete by 6pm. Evening activities such as theory sessions and dinner get togethers are from 7pm to 9pm.
The final day usually finishes a bit earlier than 6pm.
* What to Bring?
Spectators are asked to bring their own seating, a comfortable fold out chair is great.
You will mostly be seated in the arena, so bring warm clothes if the weather is inclement.
Tea and coffee is provided BYO lunch and snacks.
